Goodbye 2015...last painting of 2015

It has been a unpredictable year for sales...some months 1 some months 2 and some months 6....not enough to stand tall and say art pays all the bills....but it certainly helps...onwards and upwards into 2016....but a sale on average once a month...and some late recognition from the big galleries at year end....

A happy new year to all my regular readers....(USA tops - thankyou !!)  all the best in Art and happiness...

regards
Pierre

New Work Tonight..November 1st...

New work started tonight and drying on the easel...started and finished a smaller related work on Friday, this one closer to where I feel the colours and form have been successful...been a lean few months with only commission work as sales...will need to rethink subject matter and style and maybe a return to sea scape subject matter needed to balance the books...art game is sure a tough business....this is a larger work at 40/36 inches..oil on canvas.

Sunday 13 September 2015

'Three English Oaks in Summer', oil on canvas.

Been working on this tree-scape for a few weeks now...I seemed to have returned to slavish detail...so once started had to finish in that style..next one will hopefully be more free and expressive...thanks for looking.Pierre

New Landscape finished today..

Finished my latest project today without too much fighting the paint and canvas, feel this one is closer to where Im trying to go with a contemporary style using camouflage elements in a landscape context. I now have a very large canvas looking at me to start my next project. This is a large canvas, at at about 45/48 inches.

Thursday 13 August 2015

Seascape in Camouflage, experiment 1.

Painted a small seascape/landscape to see the outcome of camouflage technique on a sea style painting...feel the outcome is getting there but will need to be refined further...starting my large canvas today...

and this one the day before..small landscape with hills...

Moving toward larger work this week...

I finished this work over three days , in preparation for a larger canvas this week....I used a 2nd World War camouflage theme for this work, I tried not to over-fuss the detail and kept the tree forms isolated. I think it has parts that work well and there is strong contrast with a contemporary feel to the work in technique and colour . Will try and post a series of progress pictures this week of my new work, documenting the different stages of building the painting.

Camouflage Landscape Theme, new work.

Rather pleased with this one today, two days work , things happening...at last..I have pushed this technique for 3 years now and feel it is getting somewhere now...progress...and patience.

Tuesday 4 August 2015

Camouflage Landscape ...bringing all the elements together.

This is my latest painting, where I have explored the concept of camouflage patterns within a landscape, it is a theme I have explored on and off over 2 years, I feel I am closer to getting it right now...as for some reason, the finished product I have wanted, has not been quite how I imagined it would be...I am happy with this work as I feel it is a big step forward in my quest to incorporate camouflage elements into landscape painting themes. The work has taken 5 days to complete. It is 34/26 inches.

New Landscape ...with stone walls...

The stone walls used to keep livestock in the pastures (here in the UK), have been used for 100's of years...I painted this landscape using the stone walls as the focus element with some other English landscape elements. I've kept the composition simple to draw attention to the shapes as opposed to slavish detail...which afflicts me from time to time...oil on canvas.

Rosemary Topping , North East England. Oil on board.

Painted on board, primed in black, to see the difference to my working style and method....seems to dry the oil out faster....will pass a full comment when the work is complete.below some stages today from start to 3/4 complete.

Have felt better today with painting , the last few weeks have been a struggle, with much on my mind....if you are not in the creative zone , I've realised its better to be doing something else.....

Reflections

Its been many months since I wrote a long progress report on the journey.....sales have been consistent on a monthly basis, but still not at life changing prices to dispense all other income flows.....time is my biggest enemy, as I'm constantly trying to juggle projects, and commitments to find a balance between art and life..weekends and short breaks are when I can create the most , with longer periods of time per project , available...online selling is back at the fore as the better value for money advertising and sales platform....my gallery pieces sell, but at lower prices less commission and less exposure overall....I have kept my online art apart and independent of the gallery art for ease of replacing and the price differences and scale of works are smaller at the gallery due to space and price and different market....

I am still convinced that without a large gallery behind one , one could paint a life time and pass into obscurity......its those breaks that one needs to crack the nod and have the door opened....sales keep the creative juices flowing as its a form of appreciation to one's work....but unless the price makes it a wow moment.....it just becomes a labour of love...literally......and is soon forgotten...

I keep juggling and I keep painting ...always in the hope of something great happening , believing someone will open that door.....?
thanks for reading...
